Environmental Assessment Bulletin
The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of
Environment and Conservation, has announced the
following events relative to Part 10 Environmental
Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.
UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
Shalloway Big Pond, Musgrave Harbour, ATV Trail
Proponent: Craig Gray

The proponent plans to develop a 1.5 kilometre ATV trail
to a remote cabin on the west shore of Shalloways Water
Big Pond. The trail is to be located 10 kilometres east
of Musgrave Harbour, off Route 330. Site preparation and
construction is scheduled to begin upon approval.
The undertaking was registered on October 19, 2009;
public comments are due by November 26, 2009; and, the
minister�s decision is due by December 3, 2009.
Gander Bay Highway - Island Pond Cranberry Development
Proponent: 60393 Newfoundland and Labrador Corp. (Reg.
1453)
The proposal is to develop a cranberry farm on a 101
hectare peat bog. The site, known as Bursey�s Marsh, is
located approximately 22 kilometres north of Gander on
the Gander Bay Highway Route 330. Construction of the
cranberry beds is scheduled over two years with half of
the area developed each year. The development will
include removal of vegetation, ditching installation of
irrigation and sediment ponds, berms, bed drainage tile,
water control structures and farm auxiliary buildings.
Sand, fertilizers and pesticides will be applied to the
cranberry beds during operation. Harvesting of the
cranberries includes flooding each field, in succession,
with approximately 45 centimetres of water and removal
with a cranberry beater. The project is scheduled to
commence in the fall of 2009, if approved.
The undertaking was registered on October 21, 2009;
public comments are due by November 26, 2009; and, the
minister�s decision is due by December 5, 2009.

Gilmore Cranberry Farm, Bishop's Falls South
Proponent: Gilmore Cranberry Co., Inc.

Prior to the start of construction, monitoring survey
protocols must be developed for waterfowl and other bird
species as well as any other species at risk that might
be within the cranberry farm area. Mitigation measures
should be developed to reduce human-waterfowl
interactions during construction and operation of the
farm.
