Media Advisory: First Site to be Launched
Under MMSBs Community Composting Demonstration Program

The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, will be joined by Leigh Puddester, Chair and CEO of the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board (MMSB), and Gary Goobie, Mayor of Holyrood, for the launch of Holyrood as the first site under the MMSBs new Community Composting Demonstration Program.

The event will take place tomorrow (Tuesday, October 20) at the town hall in Holyrood at 3:00 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the event will move to the Star of the Sea Association on Route 60.

The Community Composting Demonstration Program will provide select communities throughout the province with an easy and effective means to divert organic waste from the landfills. The new composting initiative will assist communities with an initial capital investment to help set up the program, provide training for staff and assist with local promotional efforts. The program is being funded through the Newfoundland and Labrador Waste Management Trust Fund.
