Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Steel Mountain, Stephenville Magnetite Quarry
Proponent: Pennecon Ltd. (Reg. 1444)

The proposal is to develop an approximately 10.8 hectare quarry in the Steel Mountain area. The site is located approximately 25 kilometres southeast of the Town of Stephenville. Access to the quarry is via an eight kilometre resource road from the TCH. The proponent proposes to re-establish the area as a quarry operation by mining and transporting material which is to be used as heavy ballast.

The undertaking was registered on September 2, 2009; public comments are due October 14, 2009; and the minister's decision is due by October 17, 2009.
