The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of
Environment and Conservation, has announced the
following events relative to Part 10 Environmental
Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.
REVISED ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT SUBMITTED:
Schefferville Area Iron Ore Mine (James and Redmond
Properties)
Proponent: Labrador Iron Mines Limited
(Reg. 1379)
The proponent has submitted a revised environmental
impact statement (EIS) for public and government review
as required under the Environmental Protection Act.
The EIS is intended to address the information
requirements contained in the EIS Guidelines that were
issued to the proponent on December 12, 2008, and
predict and evaluate the environmental effects of the
proposed undertaking. The EIS can be viewed on the
department�s website at www.env.gov.nl.ca/env/Env or by
contacting the environmental assessment committee

The public deadline to make comments to the minister on
the EIS is Wednesday, October 14, 2009. The minister
will decide the acceptability of the EIS not later than
Wednesday, November 4, 2009.
UNDERTAKING RELEASED:

The undertaking was released subject to the following
condition:
The proponent must develop monitoring survey
protocols in consultation with the Wildlife Division
and the Canadian Wildlife Service for waterfowl,
other bird species and for any species at risk that
might be within the cranberry farm area. The
annual results of these monitoring surveys must be
submitted to these agencies for any appropriate
follow-up. In addition, mitigation measures should
be developed to reduce human-waterfowl interactions
during construction and operation of the cranberry
farm.
