Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act

ENVIRONMENTAL PREVIEW REPORT REQUIRED:

St. Lawrence Fluorspar Mine Reactivation

Proponent: Canada Fluorspar (NL) Inc. (Reg. 1418)

The minister has advised the proponent that an Environmental Preview Report (EPR) is

required for this project. The EPR is necessary to address deficiencies in the registration document regarding project design alternatives to tailings management and other water management information and additional workforce/employment details. An Environmental Assessment Committee will be appointed to provide advice to the minister on guidelines for the proponent on the preparation of the EPR and the adequacy of the EPR when it is received from the proponent. The guidelines will reflect requirements under the Environmental Protection Act and the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. The public will be invited to provide comments on the EPR upon its submission. EPP ACCEPTED AS SATISFACTORY:

White Bay Exploration Access Road
Proponent: Northern Abitibi Mining Corporation (Reg. 1408)

UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED:

2009 Balsam Fir Sawfly Program in Western Newfoundland

Proponent: Department of Natural Resources (Reg. 1420)

The proponent must consult with the Wildlife Division to develop a caribou monitoring plan. Additionally, a 50 metre buffer is required on Adies Pond.

Proposed Crook�s Lake, Labrador Service Depot

Proponent: Department of Transportation and Works (Reg. 1422)

The proponent is required to consult with the Wildlife Division to ensure mitigation measures are in place to protect the Mealy Mountain caribou herd.

UNDERTAKING WITHDRAWN:

Salmonier Pond Access Road

Proponent: Gray Aqua Group Ltd. (Reg. 1436)

The proponent has withdrawn the undertaking and intends to resubmit a revised registration at a later date.
