Culls Harbour - Grants Cranberry Farm
Proponent: Wade Kean (Reg. 1437)
The proposal is to develop and operate a cranberry
farm 10.4 kilometres west of the Glovertown overpass and 0.02 kilometres
in the Drovers Ridge Access Road. The site is primarily comprised of a
162 hectare peat bog. The total area of the proposal is 20 hectares of
cranberry field beds developed over five years. Construction will
consist of cranberry bed development, peat removal, berm construction, a
one kilometre access road connecting the farm to Drovers Ridge Access
Road, installation of irrigation piping and installation of water
control structures. Harvesting consists of flooding each field,
dislodging the cranberries by mechanical means and gathering and loading
the berries using a conveyer system. The project is scheduled to
commence in November 2009, if approved.
The undertaking was registered on June 29, 2009;
public comments are due by August 4, 2009; and, the minister�s decision
is due by August 13, 2009.
