The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of
Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events
relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental
Protection Act.
UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
La Scie Harbour Improvements
Proponent: Fisheries and Oceans Canada (Reg. 1434)
The proposal proposes to enhance the existing Department of Fisheries
and Oceans (DFO), Small Crafts and Harbours (SCH) facilities at La Scie,
NL. It involves the installation of a 40 metre rubble mound breakwater,
20 metre extension to an existing finger pier wharf and construction of
a 6.1 metre by 60.6 metre marginal wharf. The site is located along the
north shoreline of La Scie Harbour. Access is provided by municipal
roads off Provincial Route 414.The project will be constructed in at
least 2 phases. Phase one (breakwater extension) is scheduled to begin
on July 15, 2009. Commencement of later phases of the undertaking will
be subject to DFO operational priorities and funding.
The undertaking was registered on June 11, 2009;
public comments are due by July 19, 2009; and the Minister's decision is
due by July 26, 2009.
Bear Lake , Labrador Access Road
Proponent: Mr. Steve St.Marie (Reg. 1435)
The proponent proposes to construct an access road to his existing
recreational cottage on Bear Lake off Route 500 (Trans Labrador
Highway). A new single lane access road will connect to an existing
access road/open sand pit north of De Mille Lake, Labrador. The road is
located approximately 35 km East of Wabush. The road will be
approximately 4 metres wide with a 6 metre cut right-of-way and will be
approximately 850 metres in length. Construction is scheduled to begin
as soon as environmental release and permitting has been completed.
The undertaking was registered on June 15,
2009; public comments are due by July 22, 2009; and the Minister's
decision is due by July 30, 2009.
