Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Southern Bonavista Peninsula Forage Land

Proponent: David C. Smart (Reg. 1423)

The proposal is to develop approximately 162 hectares of agricultural land within a 275 hectare Crown Land agricultural lease. The site is located off the Jacks Pond Resource Road, Lethbridge. The development will require removal of all vegetation, stumps and stones, as well as leveling, addition of soil amendments and planting of forage seeds. There is an existing access to the site. No buildings or other infrastructure will be constructed. Land clearing and development will take place in 2009 and will be developed over a 10 year period.

The undertaking was registered on May 28, 2009; public comments are due July 9, 2009; and the Minister's decision is due by July 12, 2009.

Black Duck Siding Cranberry Farm

Proponent: Robert McFatridge (Reg. 1424)

The proposal is to develop a cranberry operation west of Route 460 in Black Duck Siding. The total area of the proposal is 27.5 hectares, which includes 13.9 hectares of cranberry field beds. Construction will consist of cranberry bed development, a sediment pond, one auxiliary building, water control structures, and 400 metres of access road. Harvesting consists of flooding each field, dislodging the cranberries with a beater and gathering with a boom. The project is scheduled to commence upon approval.

The undertaking was registered on June 2, 2009; public comments are due by July 9, 2009; and, the Minister�s decision is due by July 17, 2009.
