Environmental Assessment Bulletin
The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister
of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events
relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental
Protection Act.
UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
Nain, Trouser Lake Water Supply
Proponent: Inuit Community Government of Nain
(Reg. 1419)
The proposal is to develop a new drinking water supply for the Town of
Nain, Labrador. Work is scheduled to be completed in two phases, with
phase one to be completed in 2009 and include the installation of
approximately 2.9 kilometres of water transmission main, a parallel
access road, and associated infrastructure. Phase two is to be completed
in 2010 and will include the construction of a chlorination building/
pumphouse at Trouser Lake and a water storage tank located approximately
one kilometre from the Town of Nain.
The undertaking was registered on May 1, 2009; public comments are due
by June 5, 2009; and, the Minister�s decision is due by June 15, 2009.
2009 Balsam Fir Sawfly Program in Western Newfoundland
Proponent: Department of Natural Resources
(Reg. 1420)
The proponent proposes to carry out an operational aerial control
program in Western Newfoundland using the biological control agent
Abietiv (nucleopolyhedrovirus). The program will involve application
mainly to areas forecast to receive moderate and severe balsam for
sawfly defoliation in 2009 or additional adjacent silviculture areas
which will be monitored and treated if necessary. The spray blocks are
located north of Cormack near Bonne Bay Big Pond, Bonne Bay Little Pond,
and Adies Pond.
The undertaking was registered on May 1, 2009; public comments are due
by June 05, 2009; and, the Minister�s decision is due by June 15, 2009.
