Environmental Assessment Bulletin


The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

 

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:


Parsons Pond Oil Exploration and Access Road
Proponent: Leprechaun Resources Ltd. (Reg. 1411) 

The proposal is to construct a 10.4 kilometre access road and develop two sites for drilling exploration oil and gas wells. Access to the road is to be via an existing trail called Five Mile Road, which leaves Route 430 south of Arches Provincial Park. The sites are located north of Parson�s Pond, approximately four kilometres east of the town. Construction and drilling are to commence May and July 2009, respectively, depending upon approval.

The undertaking was registered on February 20, 2009; public comments are due April 8, 2009; and the minister's decision is due by April 16, 2009.

Ming�s Bight Gold Deposit Bulk Sample
Proponent: Tenacity Gold Mining Company Ltd. (Reg. 1412)

The proposal is to test mine, collect a bulk sample and test mill a portion of the known Deer Cove gold-quartz vein. The sample would include 4,325 tonnes from the test mine and 4,275 tonnes from a low-grade stockpile existing on site. The material is to be trucked to, and test-milled, at the currently operating Nugget Pond gold mill near Snooks Arm. The deposit is located approximately 4.2 kilometres north of Ming�s Bight, near Baie Verte. There is an existing 6.5 kilometre gravel road from Ming�s bight to the deposit. The project is to commence in June 2009, depending upon approval.

The undertaking was registered on March 2, 2009; public comments are due by April 8, 2009, and, the minister's decision is due by April 16, 2009.
