Student Voting
Terra Nova By-Election

With another electoral event comes the opportunity for Elections Newfoundland and Labrador to encourage students to exercise their rights and cast their ballots.

In order to vote in the upcoming by-election, a person must be:

  • 18 years of age on Polling Day
  • a Canadian Citizen
  • a resident of the Terra Nova electoral district

If you meet these qualifications and wish to vote in the upcoming by-election, you have a couple of important options to consider.

  1. Will you be in the Terra Nova district for polling day? If so, just head to your designated polling station and vote! The location on the polling station will be advertised on the Elections NL website (www.elections.gov.nl.ca) and in the Gander Beacon and Packet newspapers, Thursday, November 19, 2009.

  2. Will you be in another location (i.e. attending school) on polling day? If so, and if you wish to cast your ballot in Terra Nova (i.e. where you would normally live when not attending classes), then you can vote by Special Ballot. Simply fill out an application and mail it to Elections Newfoundland and Labrador. We will send you back a ballot for you to complete and mail back to us. Applications can be found on the Elections NL website and at the Elections NL headquarters (39 Hallett Crescent, St. Johns).

Additionally, students can vote in the district on Advance Poll day, Saturday, November 21, 2009.

For more information on Student Voting, Polling Day, Special Ballot voting, or Advance Poll day, or for other inquiries, please call 1-877-729-7987 (toll-free) or visit the Elections NL website.
