The Honourable Joan Burke, Minister of Education, will
join Aboriginal leaders from Newfoundland and Labrador at the Council of
Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC) Summit on Aboriginal Education in
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Members of the Newfoundland and Labrador delegation
are Darryl Shiwak, Minister of Education and Economic Development for
the Nunatsiuvat Government; Mark Nui, Grand Chief of the Innu Nation;
and, Rod Jeddore, Band Councilor and Director of Education for Conne
River.
During the summit, which will be held February 24 and
25, participants will discuss approaches for working toward eliminating
the gap between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students.
