Public Advisory: Closure Dates for Labrador Shipping Season Released

The Department of Transportation and Works has announced the closure dates for the 2008 Labrador shipping season.

Freight destined for Happy Valley-Goose Bay will be accepted in Lewisporte, Cartwright and all coastal communities until 4:30 p.m., November 10. This also applies to freight originating at Happy Valley-Goose Bay, headed for coastal Labrador ports and Lewisporte. Freight destined for coastal Labrador ports via Cartwright and Lewisporte will be accepted until 4:30 p.m., November 14.

Freight will not be accepted for delivery to terminal ports after these dates.

Effective September 26 until October 13, the M.V. Sir Robert Bond will provide a scheduled automobile/passenger/freight service. The schedule provides departures from Lewisporte on Fridays for Happy Valley-Goose Bay via Cartwright with a return trip from Happy Valley-Goose Bay on Tuesdays for Lewisporte via Cartwright. Contact 1-866-535-2567 for departure/arrival times and reservations. Passengers outside the toll-free area can call 1-709-535-0810.

On Tuesday, October 14, the M.V. Sir Robert Bond will begin operating in freight mode, with the frequency of trips and departure times determined by the amount of freight to be shipped. This ensures all freight received on, or before, the above dates, is delivered.
