Transportation and Works May 15, 2008 Significant Road Improvements Headed for the Baie Verte-Springdale Area Fresh pavement will greet motorists in the Baie Verte-Springdale region this construction season as the Williams Government continues its $73 million effort to improve the province�s roads. The Honourable Dianne Whalen, Minister of Transportation and Works, today announced $3.5 million for the area under the Provincial Roads Improvement Program, which was part of Budget 2008. "This government�s guarantee to improve transportation infrastructure throughout the province is abundantly clear," said Minister Whalen. "We continue to place high importance on providing sound, reliable roads for residents and visitors alike." Road work for the Baie Verte-Springdale area consists of:
"I am extremely pleased with this very significant investment in transportation infrastructure throughout this region," said the Honourable Tom Rideout, MHA for Baie Verte-Springdale. "The projects announced today will substantially improve the driving conditions in the area and will address many of the immediate concerns throughout the district. I look forward to seeing the results of these improvements as the summer progresses and to working with communities in the district as it relates to further upgrades in the future." The Provincial Roads Improvement Program will create an estimated 1,400 person years of employment and is part of the Provincial Government�s infrastructure strategy, valued at more than $3 billion.
