Over $2 Million on the Way for Road Infrastructure in Burgeo-La Poile

Better driving conditions are in store for motorists in Burgeo-La Poile this summer as the Honourable Dianne Whalen, Minister of Transportation and Works, today announced an investment of $2.1 million for the area under the Provincial Roads Improvement Program.

"This government has more than doubled the roads program funding in recent years, from $30 million in 2004-05 to $73 million in 2008-09," said Minister Whalen. "We have an aggressive plan to address the state of our provincial roads and bring them to a condition that meets our satisfaction."

Planned road work for the Burgeo-La Poile area includes:

  • Replace deck on Isle aux Morts River Bridge, Route 470;
  • Cleaning and painting of the Port aux Basques Steel Overpass; and,
  • Resurface section of Route 480, Burgeo Highway.

The Provincial Roads Improvement Program will create an estimated 1,400 person years of employment and is part of the Provincial Governments infrastructure strategy, worth more than $2 billion.
