Permanent Director Announced for The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery

Dean Brinton, CEO of The Rooms Corporation, today announced the appointment of Sheila C. Perry as Director of The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery. Ms. Perry will officially begin her post on January 5, 2009.

Ms. Perry holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History and Classics from the University of Alberta, a Master of Museum Studies from the University of Leicester, England and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alberta. Between 1999 and 2002, Ms. Perry was Executive Director of the Visual Arts Alberta Association (VAAA), where she established the VAAA gallery and assumed curatorial responsibilities for all exhibitions. She was the Director of the Charles H. MacNider Art Museum in Mason City, Iowa from 2002 to 2006 and, most recently, the founding Superintendent of the City of Calgary's Public Art Program, which will invest $20 million in public art over the next 5 years. The Program is also responsible for the care and management of the City of Calgary's Civic Art Collection.

Ms. Perry replaces Dr. Shauna McCabe, who has accepted a Canada Research Chair in Critical Theory in the Interpretation of Culture at Mount Allison University in Sackville, N.B.

"One of the signs that you have a successful institution is when other institutions wish to hire your staff, and you're able to attract candidates of the calibre of Sheila Perry to replace them," said Mr. Brinton. "While we are saddened to lose Dr. McCabe to New Brunswick, we are delighted to gain Ms. Perry from Alberta. Her background is ideally suited to The Rooms."
