Placentia Area Theatre dHeritage Receives Funding Support

Placentia Area Theatre dHeritage (PATH), a group that celebrates the unique history and culture of the Placentia area through interpretative theatre, has received $10,000, through the provinces Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP), to help offset costs associated with the production of its 2008 summer season.

The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, was on hand last night for the groups summer review/finale show and said that the department is pleased to support PATH.

"Our culture is a valuable asset that binds us as Newfoundlanders and Labradorians," said Minister Jackman. "Through compelling performances, PATH draws both residents and visitors alike as they recount historical events significant not only to the area, but the entire province."

This CEDP funding is not the first for summer arts projects in the area as the Cape St. Marys Performance Series received a previously announced $3,000 and Tramore Productions of Cuslett received $10,000.

"Groups such as the Cape St. Marys Performance Series, Tramore Productions and PATH make tremendous contributions to the cultural and heritage traditions of the region," said Felix Collins, MHA, Placentia and St. Marys. "As well, they play a key role in developing our tourist industry. I am pleased that our government continues to support these programs and I welcome the investments."

CEDP projects are selected on the basis of business plans, vision and potential for development within a specific sector. For more information on guidelines, please see www.tcr.gov.nl.ca/tcr/services_and_programs.htm
