Kavanagh Returns as President of NLBA

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association held their Annual General Meeting this past weekend in St. John�s. Issues discussed included the Steve Nash Youth Basketball Program, the new Sports Centre, the updated NCCP, Provincial Programming and the upcoming budget for 2008-09.

The election of officers also took place which saw Dr. Basil Kavanagh of St. John�s return as president for the fourth consecutive year. Dave Constantine of Dunville returned as VP while Roger Head of St. John�s was elected into the Secretary/Treasurer position, John Pinto remains the Policy Director. Also elected was Kevin Fitzpatrick of St. John�s as Senior Tournament Director and Tom Earles of St. John�s remains in the Youth Development position. Regional directors include; Cathy Holmes of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Tom Stewart of Corner Brook, Jamie Holmes of Gander, Jim Loder of St. Lawrence, Mark Nash of Dunville and Ig Parsons of St. John�s.

Awards were presented to the following:

  • Minor Female Coach Cathy Holmes Happy Valley-Goose Bay
  • Minor Male Coach Gerard Collins Goulds
  • Achievement Awards Kevin Fitzpatrick St. John�s
  • Brian Payne Labrador City
  • Bryan Green Valleyfield
