Provincial Gymnastics Team Wins Big at Atlantic Championships

Fifty-two of the province�s top gymnasts represented this province at the Atlantics Gymnastics Championships in Moncton, NB, and captured three team gold medals and well as several top three finishes.

Claire Hodder captured the bronze medal in the Tyro Level 2 category at the Atlantics Gymnastics Championships in Moncton this past weekend. Claire placed third on vault and beam and accumulated enough points for a third place all around finish. Teammate Jessica O�Dea took the gold medal on floor.

Erin Morry captured first place on vault, bars, bean and floor to take the gold in the all around while teammates Kate King took bronze on bars and floor and Ashley Stockley took silver on bars. Emma Holmes captured the silver medal on bars ensuring the Level 2 Argo�s the team gold.

Emily Griffin�s score of 47.86 was enough to capture the all around gold medal. Teammate Deanne Bartlett�s silver medal finish on bars gave her a total of 47.65 for an all around silver medal. Abigail Ledwell took gold on the floor while Kayla Hickman and Jeannie Weir captured a bronze medal on bars and beam respectfully.

Emily Kieley, Level l open placed third on bars and second in the all around category. Teammates Sabrina Collier captured bronze on vault while Selena Aylward took the gold on floor.

Jillian Lynch, competing in the Level 3 Open category, placed third on beam.

In the Men�s Division, the NL under 10 team captured the team gold. Roark Way took the gold in rings, high bar and all around, silver on floor and bronze on P bars. Teammate Zack Cook captured gold on floor and p bars, silver on high bar and all around and bronze on rings. James O�Brien assisted his team with a silver medal on pommel horse and a bronze finish on high bar and all around. Gabe Sorenson silver medal on P bars and bronze on floor put the finishing touches on the gold medal win for Under 10 Team NL.

Brett Mercer captured the silver medal in the all around after finishing first on P bars, second on Pommel Horse and third on floor. Teammate Tyler Ford had a first place finish on high bar, a second place finish on rings and third all around while Lucas Holloway took first and second on vault and high bar. Zachery Brophy�s silver medal on vault ensured the Level 1 10-12 the team gold medal.

Joshua Holloway was the only NL entry in the Level 3 13 + division. He finished second on vault and third on floor rings and P bars.

Newfoundland and Labradors entry in the Senior National Division, Lucas Stritt, captured the silver medal on all six apparatus to finish with the silver medal in the all around.

The Newfoundland and Labrador 2008 Provincial Gymnastics Team comprises gymnasts from the Airials Gymnastics Club- Gander, Campia Gymnastics, Mount Pearl, Cygnus Gymnastics, St. John�s and Glovertown Academy Gymnastics Club- Glovertown.
