Tourism, Culture and Recreation February 11, 2008 The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador: The Fog Devils Set to Face Off Against Special Olympics Provincial Team On Monday night February 11 members of the St. John�s Fog Devils will be facing off against the Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Floor Hockey team. The contest is being used to help tune up the Provincial Team as they prepare to compete at the 2008 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games later this month in Quebec City. "The Fog Devils have been a supporter of Special Olympics and its athletes since their inception and that commitment has never wavered. Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador is very proud of their association with the Fog Devils and they are looking forward to this spirited competition." says Executive Director, Johnny Byrne. The game is Monday, February 11th at Northpoint Sports on 42 O�Leary Avenue it is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm. Team Newfoundland and Labrador will be competing at the 2008 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Quebec City which will run from February 26 to March 1. The National Games will bring together over 800 athletes with an intellectual disability from across the country to compete in seven different sports. Team Newfoundland and Labrador is made up of twenty four athletes, seven coaches and five mission staff. Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador is dedicated to enriching the lives of Newfoundlanders and Labradoreans with an intellectual disability through sport. It is a provincial not-for-profit grassroots organization that provides sport training and competition opportunities for over 450 athletes of all ages and abilities. There are currently twelve community based clubs that offer sport programs. Through sport Special Olympics offers athletes and families a sense of achievement and an opportunity to excel as they take on leadership roles within their community. -30- Media contact: 2008 02 11 9:35 a.m.
