Arts and Culture Centres Announce 2008 Winter Events

Provincial Arts and Culture Centres throughout Newfoundland and Labrador have announced their respective schedules of events and activities for the 2008 winter season.

The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, encouraged all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to take in as many events and performances as possible.

"The stages of our Arts and Culture Centres have long been a backdrop for a wealth of talent and creativity," Minister Jackman said. "It is where we have traditionally enjoyed a variety of arts forms both from local artists who help us celebrate our living culture, as well as from national and international performers who help broaden our perspective and understanding of the world around us."

Minister Jackman said the winter lineup features exciting performances aimed at audiences of all ages.

"Theres something for everyone theatre, dance, variety, comedy, and diverse genres of music," the minister said. "I encourage people to attend a performance at our Arts and Culture Centres, whether they live in close proximity, or are planning a trip to one of our six provincial locations."

A tentative schedule for upcoming events can be viewed below. For the latest information, performance times and ticket prices, please visit the Arts and Culture Centre web site at www.artsandculturecentre.com.

In 2006, the Provincial Government released Creative Newfoundland and Labrador The Blueprint for Development and Investment in Culture, which included a commitment of $17.6 million over three years to preserve and promote the arts and culture sectors.
