Public Advisory: Wolf Warning Issued for Happy Valley�Goose Bay

The Department of Natural Resources is warning the public about reports of wolf sightings in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador.

Several residents of Happy Valley�Goose Bay reported the sightings to conservation officers with the department. One confirmed sighting was reported in the Valley View area.

The department advises pet owners, especially those living adjacent to wooded areas, to protect their animals by keeping them indoors or in confined areas. Wolves have been known to occasionally attack small-to medium-sized pets. A complaint of a wolf entering property and attacking a husky dog has been confirmed by the department.

When people encounter a wolf, they should:

  • Avoid direct eye contact
  • Back away slowly from the animal
  • The department is asking people who encounter a wolf to report the sighting to their local conservation officers who are on-call 24/7 and prepared to respond immediately.

    The officers have set wolf traps in the area and are patrolling the community daily and nightly.
