Silviculture Projects Approved for Trinity North

Four silviculture projects, in the Trinity North area, valued at $37,600 will see the planting of over 62,500 seedlings and the preparation of 90 acres for planting in the future.

"Silviculture is an important part of the governments commitment to sustainable forest management," said the Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Minister of Natural Resources and Minister Responsible for the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency. "Tree planting and site preparation are key activities used to promote healthy forest growth for the benefit of future generations."

The 62,500 tree seedlings are being planted in North Brook and consist primarily of black spruce with lesser amounts of white spruce, Norway spruce, white pine, red pine and eastern larch. All seedlings are grown at the provincial tree nursery in Wooddale.

The three site preparation projects in and around the Clarenville area, Thorburn Lake and Oates Pond, will facilitate future planting and promote healthy forest growth.

"The reforestation efforts are indeed welcome," said the Honourable Ross Wiseman, MHA for Trinity North. "Our government is committed to protecting and preserving our forest resource and the projects announced today will assist us in doing just that."

The Provincial Government has increased its investment in silviculture by $1 million this year, for a total budget of $10.4 million.
