New Provincial Court Judge Appointed for Grand Falls-Windsor

The Honourable Tom Marshall, Minister of Justice and Attorney General, today announced that Donald Singleton has been appointed a judge of the Provincial Court of Newfoundland and Labrador and will serve in the judicial centre of Grand Falls-Windsor.

"Mr. Singleton�s professional abilities and his life experience make him well suited for his new role as a judge of the Provincial Court," said Minister Marshall. "I have every confidence that he will exercise sound judgment in the cases that appear before him. I congratulate Mr. Singleton on this appointment."

Mr. Singleton spent many years in the construction and fishing industries before being accepted as a mature student into the Faculty of Law at the University of New Brunswick. He completed his law degree in 1996 and upon being called to the Bar of Newfoundland and Labrador in the spring of 1997, he moved to Happy Valley-Goose Bay to establish his own practice. He has extensive experience in criminal law, both as prosecutor and defence counsel. Mr. Singleton is also well versed in children�s law and child protection matters and has been a member of the Labour Relations Board for three and a half years.

The appointment is effective February 9, 2009.
