$45,000 Provided to Golf Newfoundland and Labrador
To Support Education and Marketing Efforts

The Honourable Trevor Taylor, Minister of Innovation Trade and Rural Development, and the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today announced a total of $45,000 has been committed to marketing support for Golf Newfoundland and Labrador (GNL), an organization which represents the majority of 18 and nine-hole golf courses in the province.

The Department of Innovation Trade and Rural Development is providing $25,000 through the $5 million Regional/Sectoral Diversification Fund (RSDF) to support the organizations marketing efforts, while the Department of Tourism, Cultural and Recreation is providing $20,000.

"The Provincial Government is committed to providing organizations like Golf Newfoundland and Labrador with the necessary tools and resources to achieve its objectives," said Minister Taylor. "By improving its marketing products, GNL will be better positioned to grow the local golf industry and target golfers from outside the province. With an increase in golfers come new opportunities for local businesses to deliver services and amenities that complement the golfing experience."

Minister Jackman was at The Wilds in Salmonier today, where he addressed the organizations annual general meeting.

"Newfoundland and Labradors has some of the most scenic golf courses in Canada," said Minister Jackman. "The game is a popular recreational pursuit, and we are pleased to continue our excellent partnership with GNL through continued support for its education and marketing initiatives."

Greg Hillier, Executive Director of GNL, said that the organization is pleased with the Provincial Government support.

"GNLs marketing strategy includes a number of initiatives aimed at improving the industry," said Mr. Hillier. "The Provincial Government support has allowed us to undertake several projects which heighten the awareness and exposure of golf in Newfoundland and Labrador to both resident and non-resident golfers."

Some of Golf Newfoundland and Labradors marketing initiatives this year include: a new branding program, the development of a golfing guide, website redevelopment, and golf awareness programs designed to encourage more participation in the sport.
