DVD to Market Francophone and Acadian Communities

The Fderation des Francophones de Terre-Neuve et du Labrador (FFTNL) will receive $5,800 from the Provincial Governments Regional/Sectoral Diversification Fund (RSDF) to produce a DVD to market the French and Acadian speaking communities on the Port au Port Peninsula, Labrador, and St. Johns.

"This is a unique tool for business attraction that will profile and market the social and economic accomplishments of the provinces French and Acadian communities," said the Honourable Trevor Taylor, Minister of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development.  "As a government we are pleased to support community groups market the province through such innovative applications as the DVD.  This initiative maintains the capacity to enhance the future development of business and cultural opportunities for these communities."

The project is a collaboration of the FFTNL, the Conseil scolaire francophone provincial (CSFP), and RDE - the national francophone economic development network. The DVD will be distributed by the FFTNL and the CSFP to the francophone communities. The full DVD content will also be available on their web sites, www.francotnl.ca  and www.csfp.nf.ca .

"The DVD will be the only French DVD aimed at marketing the province to French-speaking audiences in Canada and Europe," said Jose Dalton, project director with the Fderation des Francophones de Terre-Neuve et du Labrador. "The project will increase educational opportunities at the primary and secondary level, enhance francophone tourism products, help communities to plan and implement programs that build on their French cultural heritage, and promote economic and employment development."

The total cost of the video will be $44,800. It is expected to be completed by March 31, 2008.

Founded in 1973, Fderation des Francophones de Terre-Neuve et du Labrador is a non-profit organization that promotes the local francophone and Acadian communities.  It is an umbrella agency representing four francophone organizations which work toward social and economic development within their own linguistic communities.

The RSDF is a $5 million fund of the Department of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development and a component of the provinces Comprehensive Regional Diversification Strategy. The fund provides non-repayable contributions to economic development agencies for initiatives that address regional and sectoral development and diversification.
