New Look for Labour Market Website Revealed

Employers, job seekers and those looking for labour market information (LMI) now have a newly revamped LMIworks website to use. The Labour Market Development Division of the Department of Human Resources, Labour and Employment has re-shaped the LMIworks website www.LMIworks.nl.ca. The Honourable Shawn Skinner, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment, announced the fresh, new look today.

"The LMIworks web site is an amazing tool to have at your fingertips," said Minister Skinner. "Through feedback from site users and our experts, we have redesigned the site to enhance user-friendliness and improve access to information."

The website was launched in May of 2007. Since then, more than 103,000 visits to the site have been recorded, at an average of 199 visits per day. The site has had viewers from more than 125 countries.

www.LMIworks.nl.ca is intended to provide a comprehensive, current and accurate source for labour market and career information to assist users with their employment, career and training needs. Staff with the Labour Market Development Division have been actively monitoring the site and seeking feedback from users to ensure what is posted on the site is accessible and relevant to the current labour market conditions.

The new design provides for easier navigation and access to information; addition of featured labour market articles and an event calendar. This calendar feature will allow our partners the ability to promote career related activities within their regions directly to users of the website. The website also provides improved user accessibility to better assist those with visual-impairment. Examples of this include an improved colour-scheme, tags on all the links for visual-impairment software, and flexibility to change the text size without losing functionality of the pages.

"The labour market in our province is growing and changing at a fast pace," said Minister Skinner. "We want to ensure that we are responding to the changing needs of those using the site. By making enhancements we can continue to provide a one-stop site that Newfoundlanders and Labradorians can rely on for the latest labour market information."

Those who do not have home or work access to the Internet are encouraged to visit Career Work Centres located across the province or local Community Access Program sites to log onto the website.
