Virtual Career Fair Goes Live

Jobs at Home ExpoLive '08 is officially live on the Internet. This unique online virtual career fair is supported by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. The career fair runs from October 22-29, 2008.

"This is an exciting and innovative opportunity for employers and job seekers," said the Honourable Shawn Skinner, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment. "This online career fair will allow for easy access to opportunities that currently exist in the province and introduce business owners to a new way of recruitment."

Jobs at Home ExpoLive '08 is a joint effort of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Newfoundland and Labrador Business Coalition. Other partners include Steele Communications Inc. and CareerBeacon.com. CareerBeacon.com is hosting the virtual career fair on its website - www.careerbeacon.com/nl.

The online Virtual Career Fair provides an opportunity for employers to post their job ads for free in an effort to recruit new employees. Job seekers and other visitors to the site will see job postings from employers across the province. Potential candidates can read about the jobs and apply online right away.

"Posting jobs online provides an opportunity to reach a lot more potential candidates," said Denis Mahoney, Chair of the Newfoundland and Labrador Business Coalition. "From a business point of view (the virtual career fair) is one more tool you can use in building and maintaining a successful business."

"Our staff at CareerBeacon.com estimates that between 15 and 25 per cent of the applicants will come from outside of Newfoundland and Labrador as is standard for this type of project," said Jean Nadeau, General Manager CareerBeacon.com.

"Were hoping to attract the interest of many job seekers here at home, across Canada and around the world," said Minister Skinner. "I want to thank our partners in this project for their participation and dedication to help build the provincial labour market and a successful future for Newfoundland and Labrador."

Employers interested in participating in the fair can send an e-mail to jobexpo@careerbeacon.com or call 1-888-878-7637. They can also go to www.careerbeacon.com/nl to download their posting. Job seekers who may not have home-access to the Internet are encouraged to visit local Community Access Program sites or Career Work Centres located across the province to view the job postings.
