Provincial Government Brings Career Work Centre Network to Placentia

The Provincial Government is taking another step forward in its commitment to expand the provincial Career Work Centre (CWC) network. Today, the Honourable Shawn Skinner, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment, opened the newest addition to the network in Placentia.

"The opening of the Career Work Centre provides an important visible resource within the community," said Minister Skinner. "The Career Work Centre will help area stakeholders prepare to make the most of the opportunities that exist in our economy and greatly improve access to information for regional employers and job seekers, allowing them to pursue other prospects."

CWCs are designed to provide individuals and employers direct access to employment services. This includes providing assistance and training to help clients understand emerging labour market trends. Job seekers can avail of on-line tools, office equipment, and one-on-one assistance to look for work and research career options. Employers can use the centres to find out about current labour market conditions in the region, province and across Canada, giving them the information needed to foresee and adjust to industry conditions.

"The Placentia region, and by extension our entire province, is experiencing unprecedented new opportunities," said Felix Collins, MHA for Placentia-St. Marys. "Having this new resource in the region will ensure our employers and residents are able to avail of prospects today, and into the future."

The expanded CWC network is part of a series of Budget 2008 labour market initiatives. In addition to the $5.3 million invested in providing improved access to labour market information and career and employment services, the Provincial Government is providing $1.1 million to expand the CWC network across the province.
