Government House Leader Pleased with Accomplishments of Fall Session

Government House Leader, the Honourable Joan Burke, said today that she is pleased with the achievements of the fall session of the House of Assembly.

"This sitting was certainly productive," said Minister Burke. "We had healthy and constructive debate on the various bills, and I appreciate the members participation and contribution. In total, 37 bills were passed, which is the most that our government has ever passed in a fall session," said Minister Burke.

While the majority of the legislation dealt with housekeeping and modernization issues, Bill 75 was a significant piece that revoked timber and water rights from AbitibiBowater and returned them to their rightful owners, the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.

His Honour the Lieutenant-Governor, John Crosbie gave Royal Assent to each of these bills. Details on the legislation can be found at: //www.gov.nl.ca/hoa/business
