Pilot Project Provides Better Access to CSA Standards

There are 259 occupational health and safety standards available through the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and now all Canadians, including occupational health and safety practitioners and the general public, can readily access those standards. A new two-year pilot project provides users with the full content of these CSA standards through CSAs website.

"The View Access pilot project will be helpful for all employers and employees in improving workplace safety," said the Honourable Kevin OBrien, Minister of Government Services. "We have recently conducted a review and consultation process into new draft Occupational Health and Safety Regulations which refer to many CSA standards. Access to those standards was one of the top issues we heard from many groups as purchasing these standards was often cost-prohibitive for employers, employees and labour groups."

View Access is a resource for interested groups to learn more about safety and health requirements and how to apply these obligations to improve workplace safety.

The pilot project was developed in collaboration with federal, provincial and territorial governments and agencies responsible for administering occupational health and safety legislation in Canada. These entities are funding the development and maintenance of the initiative on a per capita basis and will monitor the pilot project for overall usage and impact in cooperation with CSA. Newfoundland and Labrador is contributing $2,720 over the two years of the pilot project.

Users can visit the View Access website at www.ohs.csa.ca.
