Premier Seeks Responses from Federal Party Leaders
on Issues of Importance to Newfoundland and Labrador

The Honourable Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today released letters to the leaders of each of the three major national political parties in the 2008 Federal Election. Premier Williams has written to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Stphane Dion and Jack Layton seeking their respective partys position on several issues of significance to Newfoundland and Labrador.

"In the coming weeks, Newfoundlanders and Labradorians will be asked to cast their vote to select their next Members of Parliament," said Premier Williams. "In forming their decision, voters deserve a clear indication of where the three major national parties stand on the issues that are important to them. It is my hope that by responding to my letter, the party leaders will give the people of Newfoundland and Labrador the information they need to decide which candidate and party to support come October 14."

Premier Williams letter posed questions to the party leaders on important issues such as: the fishery; equalization; energy; cultural funding; Labrador issues; womens issues; and economic development and infrastructure.

"I look forward to receiving the responses to my letter," added Premier Williams. "The answers provided by each leader will be publicly released as they are received."
