Media Advisory: Premier�s Athletic Awards Reception

The Honourable Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will host the fifth annual Premier�s Athletic Awards today (Thursday, May 22) at 4:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, St. John�s. Intergovernmental Affairs Minister, the Honourable Tom Hedderson, will be Master of Ceremonies.

Premier Williams will also present the Team Gushue Scholarship Award for academic and athletic excellence, established in recognition of Team Gushue�s gold medal victory at the 2006 Olympic Games.

The Premier�s Athletic Awards are designed to assist the province�s elite athletes by providing financial assistance while competing at Atlantic, national and international events. A total of 95 athletes will be recognized this year.
