Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Grand Falls-Windsor Cranberry Farm
Proponent:  Mr. Stephen Newhook                                 (Reg. 1396)

The proposal is to develop and operate a cranberry farm in the Grand Falls-Windsor area. The proposed development site is located approximately 500 metres north of Grand Falls-Windsor where the transmission line intersects with Ivany's Road. The farm will be approximately 26 hectares, including berms and ditches. However, field development will be limited to 18 hectares. Construction will consist of brush cutting; ditching; cranberry bed development; farm auxiliary buildings; water control structures; drainage tiles; sedimentation pond; upgrading of an access road to the site, etc. The farm will be developed over three years, with construction scheduled to begin as soon as all permitting is in place.

The undertaking was registered on August 28, 2008; public comments are due by October 8, 2008; and the minister's decision is due by October 12, 2008
