The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act. ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE APPOINTED: Bloom Lake Railway (Resubmission) The following agencies have been appointed to the Environmental Assessment Committee for the above undertaking and will provide the Minister with scientific and technical advice on the Environmental Preview Report: ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT REQUIRED: Schefferville Area Iron Ore Mine (James and Redmond
Properties)
The minister has advised the proponent that an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is required. An Environmental Assessment Committee will be appointed to provide scientific and technical advice to the minister and to prepare draft guidelines for the preparation of the EIS documents by the proponent.
The EIS is to address, but not be limited to: the
potential effects on caribou, the socioeconomic impacts, effects on fish
and fish habitat, project feasibility, the project�s water budget,
details of avifauna studies, an assessment of expected air emissions,
electrical power availability and project decommissioning. The public
will be invited to provide comment on the draft guidelines. For further

Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is required. An Environmental
Assessment Committee will be appointed to provide scientific and
technical advice to the minister and to prepare draft guidelines for the
preparation of the EIS documents by the proponent. The EIS is to address, but not be limited to: the
potential effects on caribou, the socioeconomic impacts, effects on fish
and fish habitat, project feasibility, details regarding stream
crossings and area hydrology, project alternatives, details of
decommissioning and site closure, contaminants contained in pit
dewatering and water budget. The public will be invited to provide

pmadden@gov.nl.ca UNDERTAKING REGISTERED: Branch Area Cranberry Farm The proposed undertaking will be located seven
kilometres east of St. Bride�s, along route 100. The 50 acre site will
have 38 acres of cranberry beds and an 80 metre access road. There will
be brush cutting, ditching, placement of sand beds, and installation of
water control structures and drainage tiles, during the construction
phase. The site will be developed over a five year period with
construction tentatively scheduled to begin this fall. The undertaking was registered on August 12, 2008;
public comments are due by September 17, 2008; and, the minister's
decision is due by September 26, 2008. For further information on the environmental
