Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Shabogamo Lake Cottage Access Road

Proponent: Mr. Frank Fry and Ms. Valerie M. Fry (Reg. 1389)

The proposal is for the construction of a 1,600 metre, single lane access road off Route 500 (Trans Labrador Highway) to a recreational cottage. The proposed road will intersect with Route 500 approximately 30 kilometres east of Labrador City and continue north to Shabogamo Lake.

The undertaking was registered on July 10, 2008; public comments are due by August 15, 2008; and the minister's decision is due by August 24, 2008.

UNDERTAKING RELEASED:

Salmonier Cottage Development Plan

Proponent: Dept. of Environment and Conservation, Lands Branch (Reg. 1377)

This undertaking was released from environmental assessment subject to the following conditions:

  • Boreal Felt Lichen (Erioderma pedicellatum) surveys will be conducted during the detailed the lot and road design, in conjunction with the Wildlife Division. If Erioderma is located, mitigative measures will be undertaken in consultation with the Wildlife Division.
  • Cottage lots will be required to have a minimum of 15 metres (determined at time of lot survey) undisturbed (naturally vegetated) buffer from all waterbodies. Cottage owners will be permitted to construct a waterbody access road on this buffer.
