Environmental Assessment Bulletin 

The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED:

Newfoundland and Labrador Refinery Project

Proponent: Newfoundland and Labrador Refining Corporation (Reg. 1301)

On April 29, 2008, the Minister of Environment and Conservation, Charlene Johnson, informed the Newfoundland and Labrador Refinery Corporation that, under authority of Section 67(3) (a) of the Environmental Protection Act SNL 2002, cE-14.2, the Lieutenant-Governor in Council released the Newfoundland and Labrador Refinery Project from further environmental assessment, subject to the following terms and conditions:

  1. Newfoundland and Labrador Refining Corporation must implement the mitigation measures, monitoring and follow-up commitments contained in the Environmental Impact Statement dated July 27, 2007 and the Environmental Impact Statement Amendment dated November 1, 2007;
  2. Newfoundland and Labrador Refining Corporation must prepare Environmental Protection Plans, Environmental Effects Monitoring Plans and a Socio-Economic Management Plan for the undertaking and submit them to the Minister of Environment and Conservation for approval prior to the start of construction; and
  3. Newfoundland and Labrador Refining Corporation must prepare, in consultation with the Women�s Policy Office, a Women�s Employment Plan and submit it to the Minister Responsible for the Status of Women for approval prior to the start of construction.
