Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

White Bay Exploration Access Trail

Proponent: Northern Abitibi Mining Corporation (Reg. 1370)

The proposed project includes the construction of a 2.3 kilometre ATV/hiking trail, located approximately 10 kilometres south of Sop�s Arm on the west side of Route 420. The trail will be used to access the proponent�s mineral exploration block.

The project was registered on March 24, 2008; public comments are due by April 28, 2008; and the minister�s decision is due by May 4, 2008.    

Burnt Berry Pond Cottage Development Plan

Proponent: Department of Environment and Conservation, Lands Branch (Reg. 1371)

The project consists of the development of approximately 40 cottage lots on the northwest shoreline of Burnt Berry Pond. The pond is located along the Trans Canada Highway in Central Newfoundland near Halls Bay. Lots will be allocated to individual private owners. The development will be serviced by on-site well and septic systems. Approximately 2.2 kilometres of gravel road will be constructed extending south from the existing cottage access road. Construction is tentatively scheduled to commence in the spring of 2008.

The undertaking was registered on March 25, 2008; public comments are due by April 30, 2008; and the minister's decision is due by May 9, 2008.

Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, prior to the deadline date shown.
