Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Main Brook Tourism Infrastructure Development

Proponent: White Bay Central Development Association/Nordic Economic Development Association (Reg. 1367)

The proposal is to improve the underground salmon pool site at Beaver Brook, approximately four kilometres along the access road which intersects Route 433, approximately three kilometres from the Route 432 intersection. Construction will include upgrades to existing walking trails, construction of a looped trail walking trail around the site, two viewing areas, interpretive panels, an access bridge, and a rest and interpretation area along Route 432.

The undertaking was registered on February 27, 2008; public comments are due by April 2, 2008; and the minister's decision is due on April 12, 2008.

Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, prior to the deadline date shown.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT REQUIRED:

Grande Meadows (Frenchman�s Cove) Golf Course Expansion Resubmission

Proponent: Grande Meadows Golf Course Association Inc. (Reg. 1340)

The minister has advised the proponent that an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is required for this project. The EIS will be required to examine among other things, effects on: local waterfowl, fish and fish habitat, water resources, and park lands and users of Frenchman= s Cove Provincial Park. An Environmental Assessment Committee will be appointed to provide scientific and technical advice to the minister and to prepare draft guidelines for the preparation of the EIS by the Proponent. The public will be invited to provide comment on the draft guidelines.
