Transportation and Works May 7, 2007 Port au Port Area Will Receive $1 Million in Road Improvements Roads in the Port au Port area will undergo repairs this construction season as a result of the unprecedented $66.5 million Provincial Roads Improvement Program under Budget 2007. The Honourable John Hickey, Minister of Transportation and Works, today announced an investment of $1 million for road improvements in this area. "Government is committed to providing quality transportation infrastructure in rural areas of Newfoundland and Labrador," said Minister Hickey. "We have shown our commitment with a very substantial investment of $66.5 million, the largest investment in the Provincial Roads Improvement Program to date." Road improvement projects planned for Port au Port this year include: "I am very pleased with the funding for my district this year," said Tony Cornect, MHA for Port au Port. "This money will go a long way to address current road conditions and to create a better driving experience for motorists in the area." Government estimates the Provincial Roads Improvement Program creates 1,200 person years of employment, with 94 per cent of the work being done in rural areas.
