$1.45 Million Announced for Road and
Bridge Improvements in Cartwright-L�Anse au Clair

Highway conditions in southern Labrador will undergo significant improvements during the upcoming construction season.

The Honourable John Hickey, Minister of Transportation and Works, today announced an investment of $1.45 million for road improvements in the district of Cartwright-L�Anse au Clair. "Improving our transportation network is a top priority for this government," said Minister Hickey. "We are committed to investing in rural Newfoundland and Labrador and to providing the traveling public with a safe, reliable transportation network."

Projects planned for the district of Cartwright-L�Anse au Clair this year are:

  • Rehabilitate Trout River Bridge;
  • Rehabilitate L'Anse au Loup Bridge;
  • Supply and application of crushed gravel between Red Bay and Mary�s Harbour;
  • Resurface sections of Route 510 in L'Anse au Loup and L'Anse au Clair.

This year, government will invest $66.5 million in the Provincial Roads Improvement Program. Government estimates the Provincial Roads Improvement Program creates 1,200 person years of employment, with 94 per cent of the work being done in rural areas.

This is the second year of government�s six-year strategy for infrastructure improvements exceeding $2 billion.
