Government Invests $3M in Trinity-Bay de Verde Roads

Roads in Trinity-Bay de Verde will receive a major facelift this year as government announced it will invest $3 million to improve the local transportation network.

"Not only will this funding significantly enhance the driving experience in Trinity-Bay de Verde, it will create jobs in rural communities," said the Honourable John Hickey, Minister of Transportation and Works. "In fact, we estimate the $60 million Provincial Roads Improvement Program will generate 1,200 person years of employment."

Funding for this yearís Provincial Roads Improvement Program matches last yearís investment and was once again announced prior to budget which allows tendering and construction to begin earlier than the norm.

Ninety-four per cent of the Provincial Roads Improvement Program will fund repairs outside the North East Avalon Region.

Road improvements slated for Trinity-Bay de Verde are:

  • Correct drainage problem and scale rock face at Bay de Verde;
  • Upgrade and pave section of Grates Cove Road;
  • Upgrade and pave section of Route 80, Hantís Harbour;
  • Upgrade and pave section of Route 70, Red Head Cove to Bay de Verde;
  • Upgrade and pave section of Route 80, Mont Fagner towards Old Perlican;
  • Upgrade and pave section of Route 70, Adamís Cove;
  • Upgrade and pave sections of Route 80 in New Melbourne and Brownsdale;
  • Upgrade and pave sections of Route 70 in Burnt Point and Northern Bay;
  • Upgrade and pave North Point Road, Heartís Content;
  • Replace culvert and pave section in Old Perlican
  • Charlene Johnson, MHA for Trinity-Bay de Verde, said, "This considerable investment leaves no doubt about governmentís dedication to the people of my district, just as the overall Provincial Roads Improvement Program speaks to the dedication this administration has to the entire province."
