Transportation and Works March 12, 2007 Government Invests $3M in Trinity-Bay de Verde Roads
Roads in Trinity-Bay de Verde will receive a major facelift this year as government announced it will invest $3 million to improve the local transportation network. "Not only will this funding significantly enhance the driving experience in Trinity-Bay de Verde, it will create jobs in rural communities," said the Honourable John Hickey, Minister of Transportation and Works. "In fact, we estimate the $60 million Provincial Roads Improvement Program will generate 1,200 person years of employment." Funding for this year�s Provincial Roads Improvement Program matches last year�s investment and was once again announced prior to budget which allows tendering and construction to begin earlier than the norm. Ninety-four per cent of the Provincial Roads Improvement Program will fund repairs outside the North East Avalon Region. Road improvements slated for Trinity-Bay de Verde are: Charlene Johnson, MHA for Trinity-Bay de Verde, said, "This considerable investment leaves no doubt about government�s dedication to the people of my district, just as the overall Provincial Roads Improvement Program speaks to the dedication this administration has to the entire province." -30-
