Government Invests Over $1 Million in Fortune Bay-Cape La Hune Roads

The Bay dEspoir Highway will receive a major facelift this summer with much- needed road repairs. The Honourable John Hickey, Minister of Transportation and Works, today announced an investment of $1.O7 million for road improvements in the District of Fortune Bay-Cape La Hune, with most of the monies targeted to the long-winding Bay dEspoir Highway.

"Maintaining and improving our roads network is a top priority for this government," said Minister Hickey. "Motorists in all parts of the province demand and deserve a safe, reliable highway system, and we will continue our significant investments in the Provincial Roads Improvement Program to ensure this is provided."

Government is committed to revitalizing transportation infrastructure throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The Provincial Roads Improvement Program doubled in value from $30 million in 2004-05 to $60 million in 2006-07. For the second consecutive year, pre-budget approval has been given for a $60 million investment in this program.

This year, government will replace two culverts at Little Gull Brook just south of Berry Hill Brook and will upgrade and resurface a section of Route 360, Bay dEspoir Highway.

"We have heard the concerns of residents who travel the Bay dEspoir Highway and have responded with this major investment," said Minister Hickey.
