Sport Newfoundland and Labrador Raise $10,000 at First Annual Golf Tournament
Funds to Support SportNL Programs

On Tuesday June 26, Sport Newfoundland and Labrador held its first annual golf tournament and a total of $10,000 was raised to support programs and services it offers to its 44 provincial sport organizations.

President, Tom Godden says, "For our very first event, this has been a very successful golf tournament. We are very pleased with the support we received from our presenting partner, Coca-Cola as well as the teams that entered. Without their support it would not have been such a success."

The proceeds from the event will support programs such as KidSport NL which is a childrens charity designed to provide sporting grants to families to enable their children to participate in organized sport. KidSport firmly believes that the primary goals of children's sport programming are for each child to have fun and to want to play again next season. Young people learn more than athletic skills from sport. Sport provides a lifelong opportunity for self-expression and self-discovery, and teaches children the value of leadership, practice, hard work, dedication, and self-confidence.

During the event Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador also made a presentation to KidSport NL. Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador was delighted to be associated with the 24 hour marathon game on January 20 that was coordinated by Hockey Canada Atlantic Regional Centre, which raised $6,000 for Kid Sport in Newfoundland and Labrador. Gerry Evans, President of Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador, feels that this donation will assist many young boys and girls. "We know that there are underprivileged children in our province that don't get the opportunity to experience the great game of hockey. This funding will help parents with registration and equipment fees. We were ecstatic that both our Hockey Canada's regional office and Sport Newfoundland and Labrador agreed to partner in this worthwhile cause."
