2007 Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games

The 2007 Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Championships are taking place June 22-24 in St. John�s.  The championships will host over 450 athletes, coaches and mission staff from 12 different Special Olympics community-based clubs across the province.  Athletes will be competing in the sports of track and field, bowling, and swimming.

The opening ceremonies will be held Friday, June 22, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at PWC High School. Competition will be starting 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 23. Track and field will be hosted at the Mount Pearl Track complex, bowling will be hosted at Plaza Bowl and St. Pats bowling lanes while swimming will be held at the MUN pool.

Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador is dedicated to enriching the lives of Newfoundlanders and Labradoreans with an intellectual disability through sport.  It is a provincial not-for-profit grassroots organization that provides sport training and competition opportunities for over 450 athletes of all ages and abilities. There are currently 12 community-based clubs that offer sport programs. Through sport Special Olympics offers athletes and families a sense of achievement and an opportunity to excel as they take on leadership roles within their community
