Media Advisory: Minister to Attend Manning Awards

Tourism, Culture and Recreation Minister the Honourable Tom Hedderson will be a presenter at the 2007 Manning Awards ceremony and reception taking place at the Fairmont Hotel, St. Johns, today (Wednesday, March 14) at 3 p.m.

The Historic Sites Association (HSA) will be presenting six awards at the ceremony to recipients from a variety of heritage projects located across Newfoundland and Labrador. Recipients are selected by an adjudication committee through an open nominations process. The Dr. Paul ONeill Scholarship for Excellence in Newfoundland and Labrador Studies will also be presented at the ceremony.

In 1993, the HSA created the Manning Award for Excellence in the Public Presentation of Historic Places in recognition of the work being done across the province by community-minded groups and organizations. This award honours the late Bill Manning, former Parks Canada Superintendent of Historic Sites for Newfoundland and Labrador. Mr. Manning realized that the preservation and presentation of our heritage requires the involvement of the people in these communities.

The annual Manning Award ceremony is under the distinguished patronage of His Honour, the Honourable Ed Roberts, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador.
