Launch of Kidsport Awareness Campaign:
Program Designed to Give More Kids an Opportunity to Play Sports

Sport Newfoundland and Labrador today announced the launch of its KidSport awareness campaign. KidSport is designed to enable more young people to participate in sport. Through the help of its partners, KidSport Newfoundland and Labrador will provide sport grants to financially disadvantaged youth across the province to cover registration/participant fees and personal sport equipment.

The official spokesperson for KidSport Newfoundland and Labrador is Canadian Idol finalist Rex Goudie. In conjunction with KidSport Newfoundland and Labrador, Goudie will assist in the promotion of the program province-wide.

Sport Newfoundland and Labrador represents 43 provincial sport organizations in Newfoundland and Labrador. Through its mandate, Sport Newfoundland and Labrador provides programs, such as KidSport, that increase sport participation across the province.

Tom Godden, president of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador, says, "Were trying to encourage more children to get involved in sports. Sport provides so much to those who take part: teamwork, goal setting, and fair play, just to name a few. These benefits must be accessible to all children, those who can afford it and those who cannot. That's where KidSport can help."

"We would also like to thank our partners who are instrumental in the delivery and success of KidSport Newfoundland and Labrador. Without them we certainly would not have made the progress we have. Our Partners include Aliant, The Telegram, the Provincial Government, Steele Communications and CBC Sports." Godden goes on to say.

KidSport Canada is a national not-for-profit organization that exists to remove the financial barriers that prevent some children from playing sport. Operating in 11 provinces and territories and in more than 120 communities across Canada, KidSport has raised in excess of $10 million and has helped more than 100,000 Canadian kids play a season of sport.
