Reminded to Turn Clocks Back
Residents of Newfoundland and Labrador are reminded to
adjust their clocks back one hour on November 4, 2007, at 12:01 a.m. to
reflect the return to Newfoundland Standard Time (NST). This change will
remain in effect until March 9, 2008.
The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador adopted
extended Daylight Savings Time in 2007 to ensure a consistent time
pattern with other Canadian provinces and the United States. The change
essentially provided one month of additional Daylight Savings Time to
the province.
"Residents are reminded that with the change in time,
more care should be taken while driving during evening rush-hour,
especially in areas where there are high amounts of pedestrian traffic,"
said the Honourable Dave Denine, Minister of Municipal Affairs.
As well, many automated and technology-reliant items
in homes have clocks, alarms and notifications which should all be
adjusted to reflect the change back to Newfoundland Standard Time.
"Residents should take a few minutes to ensure all electronics and
appliances are adjusted to reflect the time change," said Minister
Denine. "This is a good opportunity for home safety checks which should
include changing batteries and checking smoke and carbon monoxide
detectors to ensure they are in working order. As some homes will soon
begin using oil heaters and wood stoves, the few minutes it may take to
replace a battery may just save your life in the event of an emergency."
