Bridge and Culvert Project in Glovertown to Improve Road and Pedestrian Traffic

Through a cost-sharing agreement between the Provincial Government and the municipality, the Town of Glovertown will construct a bridge and culvert across Penneys Brook to secure road conditions, and improve pedestrian safety in the area of the school and arena.

Today, the Honourable Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal Affairs, along with Paul Oram, MHA for the District of Terra Nova, announced the infrastructure project valued at $312, 209.

"We are proud to support strong and reliable community infrastructure through strategic investments around the province," said Minister Byrne. "The Penneys Brook Bridge will provide a safe and secure transportation link, and is a prime example of governments commitment to sustainable infrastructure in smaller municipalities."

"Residents in Glovertown will see a decrease in traffic congestion around the school and arena due to the construction of the Penneys Brook Bridge," said MHA Paul Oram. "Pedestrian safety is a concern to the residents of the area who have asked for a safer roadway to the school that may lessen the risk to children and individuals who travel by foot to the facility. I commend my colleague, Minister Byrne, for supporting this project that will provide peace of mind to the many parents whose children use this route each day."

This project is funded through the $34.2 million 2007-08 Municipal Capital Works Program. The program is intended to finance municipal infrastructure projects within communities, cities and towns around the province through a cost-sharing agreement between municipalities and the Provincial Government. The 2007-08 program has a 93 per cent allocation to smaller rural municipalities.
