Providing sustainable infrastructure in communities
and towns through strategic investments remains a priority of the
Provincial Government. The Honourable Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal
Affairs, today announced funding of $53,043, through the 2007-08
Municipal Capital Works Program, to support the construction of new
change rooms at the Pasadena West End Ball Field.
"Recreational facilities have a direct benefit to the
residents of Newfoundland and Labrador, fostering healthy and active
lifestyles. I am pleased to approve projects that see such facilities in
the province being upgraded and expanded," said Minister Byrne. "This
project in Pasadena will give residents and athletes more usable and
comfortable accommodations to prepare for their various activities at
this ball field."
"The change room and washroom facilities will
certainly be a major improvement to this sports facility in Pasadena and
will be a great benefit to the many residents of the town that use the
ball field," said the Honourable Tom Marshall, MHA for the District of
Humber East. "I am pleased that the Department of Municipal Affairs has
recognized the need for infrastructure upgrading to this facility and
look forward to the completion of the project."
The Municipal Capital Works Program is utilized to
support municipal infrastructure initiatives in water and sewer, roads,
recreation and fire equipment. This project is cost-shared between the
Provincial Government and the Town of Pasadena. In 2007-08, 93 per cent
of this programs investment capital will support infrastructure in
smaller municipalities around the province.
